FOURAT
CHAM PALACE, DEIR EZ ZOR - Overview
Located at the city entrance, on the right
bank of the renowned Euphrates river, the Fourat Cham Palace stands on the crossroads
of the ancient trade routes, from Aleppo to Baghdad and Damascus to Mosul. Here
was a transshipment point of the "Silk Road" where exotic merchandise
from the Far East -- spices, silks, art and other ware -- were brought by the
caravans of old and exchanged for grain, livestock, muslins, rugs, weapons for
the return trip to India and China.
